Paper Management

You would think that in this ever-increasing digital world, we would struggle less with incoming paper and how to organize it. Paper organization is still the most requested organizing project that professional organizers are consulted on. Incoming mail, invitations, bills, coupons, contracts, quotes, children's school papers and art - it comes into our homes daily. There are decisions to be made on a daily basis.

Some Tips on Paper Management from a Professional Organizer

If you are the one who checks the mail, walk by the recycling bin before you even go in the house and eliminate the mail you don't want to come into your house. I always recommend making these decisions right away; decreasing the amount of touches you will have on the item and saving you time and energy. It takes a few minutes to sort household paper into an action pile and filing pile. It helps to have a paper sorting station set up somewhere close to the door. Mine is in the kitchen, which is centrally located. Once a week, I go through those papers and file them, pay the bills and let go of household paper which have expired.

If you have a a lot of piles in your house I highly recommend hiring some help. Organizing papers can be very tiring and people lose momentum halfway into the project. Please call me for a free consultation when you are ready to take control of your paper!
